Cheese Kingdom: lighting for a cheese shop

Cheese Kingdom (Syrne Korolivstvo) is a chain of specialised European-style cheese shops with a homely atmosphere, where you can taste everything on the shelves. We designed the lighting for one of the chain’s shops and installed the luminaires.

The shop uses two types of luminaires: 18 W PRIAGO TRL90 track spotlights with warm 2700 K light and 35 W OPUS ROUND MTR136 surface-mounted luminaires with neutral 4000 K.

Colour temperature for cheese, meat and dairy products

Warm 2500-3000 K light suits cheese and bakery products well. They take on a rich colour, as if fresh from the oven, and stimulate the appetite. Warm light is associated with sunlight and makes a space feel cosy.

Meat counters are lit with sources that use a meat chip. Its pinkish tint brings out the freshness of meat, but it does not suit sausages and cured meats: too pink a light looks unnatural and puts shoppers off.

Cool white 5000-6000 K light is used for frozen and dairy products and emphasises the freshness of dairy. Light that is too warm makes frozen food look spoiled, and light that is too cool makes it look over-frozen.

Warm 2700 K PRIAGO track spotlights over the cheese counters

The cheese counters are lit only with warm 2700 K track luminaires. This light gives the shop a homely atmosphere and underlines how special the products are.

OPUS ROUND 4000 K surface-mounted luminaires in the alcohol area

The alcohol area is lit with neutral 4000 K surface-mounted luminaires to avoid reflections on the bottles.
