MIRA beauty salon in Kyiv

MIRA is a brand of premium beauty salons in Kyiv. The company has worked in the beauty market for more than 14 years, offering nail services, hairdressing, make-up, and face and body treatments.

For clients, a salon is also a place to rest and relax. The atmosphere depends heavily on light: cheap, flickering, cool-coloured light sources spoil even an expensive interior. Good light brings the fit-out to life and also meets the practical needs of the stylists.

02 · Reception

Reception and waiting area lighting at the MIRA salon

The reception by the entrance greets clients and sets the mood. The entrance and waiting area are best lit at 350-400 lx: a well-lit space builds trust and makes it easier for a new visitor to walk in. A mix of general light and accents on interior features works best here.

03 · Hair salon

Lighting for hairdressers’ workstations at the MIRA salon

A hairdresser needs a high general light level, at least 500 lx in the working area. Luminaires must not cause glare, so models with a recessed light source or indirect light and a UGR below 15 work better. This light does not tire the stylist’s eyes.

Colour rendering is critical in a hair salon. When colouring hair, the stylist has to hit the exact shade, so light sources need high colour rendering.

04 · Manicure

Manicure area lighting at the MIRA salon

Manicure and pedicure tables need plenty of light: 550-600 lx of general light plus a desk lamp on an adjustable stand at each workplace. Accurate nail polish colours need light sources of at least 80 Ra, otherwise the manicure will look different in daylight.

Three typical mistakes in beauty salon lighting are too little general light, poor-quality sources that distort the colour of hair, make-up and nails, and cool light above 5000 K that makes skin look pale.
