01 · About the project

Supermarket of the Kyiv Kontynent chain

Kontynent brings together 10 retail and service businesses. We worked on the lighting of a supermarket in the Kyiv Kontynent chain.

In food retail with tough competition, light directly affects whether a shopper wants to come back. The sales floor should be evenly lit, and product displays brighter than the general light.

02 · Accent light

Kontynent sales floor lit only with track spotlights

The key feature of the project is that the whole sales floor is lit only with accent sources: LED spotlights on busbar. General lighting is used only in the checkout area.

This created a cosy atmosphere across the sales floor. With enough spotlights, the counters and aisles got good light levels.

03 · Departments

Colour temperature for bread, fish and vegetables at Kontynent

Each food group needs its own light. Bread, pastries and cheese are lit with warm 3000K, meat, sausages and confectionery with neutral 4000K. Fish and vegetables suit 4000-5000K, while frozen food, dairy and seafood look fresh under light up to 6000K.

Mistakes to avoid are too little light on the counters, the wrong colour temperature, luminaires that heat the food, and UV/IR radiation over alcohol and meat. Heat makes bananas, vegetables and herbs overripen and spoil quickly.

04 · Luminaires

Luminaires in the project

  • BAND LED track spotlights: COB CREE 1820, 3300 lm at 35 W, colour rendering from 82 Ra (up to 95 Ra), main light for the whole sales floor.
