Diesel: lighting for a denim shop

Diesel is an Italian brand of denim, men’s and women’s clothing, footwear and accessories. It is a premium brand, and the lighting in its shop has to create a matching atmosphere on the sales floor.

Branded clothing shops are usually lit in a soft warm 2700K-3200K or a neutral white 4000K. Either way, the light sources must render product colour and texture faithfully, which means a colour rendering index of at least CRI 80 Ra.

The Diesel floor is lit with track spotlights only

Some premium shops drop general light in favour of accent light on displays, counters, mannequins and the whole product display. This creates a dramatic atmosphere and puts shoppers in an impulsive mood. Others combine general and accent light.

Diesel chose to put maximum emphasis on the product and light the floor only with LED spotlights on busbar. We installed TECHNIK TRL100 track spotlights on single-circuit track recessed into the ceiling. There are many spotlights, so they light the products well and also give enough general light on the floor.

The TECHNIK TRL100 has a COB CREE 1816 light source and a colour rendering index of at least CRI 82 Ra, so denim colour and texture are rendered faithfully. Luminous flux is 2850 lm at 30 W. The beam angle can be 15°, 24° or 40°, and the aluminium housing comes in the client’s colour. The warranty is 36 months.
