Pendant LED luminaires: types and uses
What types of pendant luminaires are there?
LED household lamps came into everyday life fairly recently. Although LEDs had been used in electrical engineering for almost 100 years, they were not used at home. Only 20 to 30 years ago LED lighting was a rarity and a curiosity, and today pendant LED luminaires are used everywhere. Large and small, classic and extravagant designer pieces, simple and complex designs with shades, on stems or hung on cords: all of them make our world brighter.
Pendant LED luminaires are now the height of lighting fashion. They fit well into any interior thanks to the variety of shapes, sizes, materials and designs. People choose them for many reasons. Here are the main ones:
- Decorative fit
- Function
- Quality of light
Decorative fit
Decorative fit is fairly simple: the luminaire is chosen to suit the design and features of the room. Consider the look (it should blend into the interior and suit your taste) as well as the size and character of the room itself.
For example, in a room with low ceilings it makes sense to place the luminaire right under the ceiling. In a dining room, on the other hand, a lamp hung low over the table on a long cord will look very good. In a large office or shop a single luminaire is out of place altogether. Rooms like these are better served by a multi-luminaire layout.
Pendant LED luminaires: function and quality
The second and third points on our list are harder to settle. Function, quality and the colour of light depend directly on the design of the luminaire.
- For rooms with high humidity, such as a swimming pool or a bathroom, choose luminaires that are rated for that humidity.
- For a sauna, a bathhouse or another hot room, choose a luminaire with heat resistance.
- For a kitchen or a workshop, choose a luminaire that is easy to clean, because it will get dirtier.
- For a children's room, choose a robust luminaire, preferably impact-resistant, because it will have a lot to put up with.
- For an open veranda or outdoor lighting, choose a model that withstands temperature changes and moisture.
- When choosing pendant luminaires for a shop, a training centre or an office, pick a colour temperature that does not tire the eyes.
The size and power of luminaires should match the size of the room. A luminaire that is too powerful for a small room is a poor choice: people, animals and even plants do not feel well in such conditions. The opposite is just as bad, when the luminaire is not powerful enough for the floor area. In weak light and semi-darkness the eyes tire quickly and people work less well.
And these are far from all the details to consider when choosing a model. So if you are buying pendant luminaires for the first time, ask a specialist for advice: the differences between models and the details of their specifications are considerable. LED lamps have only one thing in common: reliable, long-lasting operation.
Where LED luminaires can be used
Modern LED lamps are easy to find in towns and villages: in shop windows, street lights, billboards, car headlights and so on. They light offices, retail spaces, greenhouses and factories, training centres, and ordinary flats and houses. Today there is no area where Vision Lighting LED lighting would be out of place.
Depending on their design and function, LED lamps fit into home and office interiors and suit retail use. Offices most often use classic models in neutral tones. For the home, people choose the most interesting options with designer details.
Large retail spaces and entertainment centres suit large multi-luminaire designs with several operating modes. In agriculture, what matters when choosing luminaires is not colour or extravagance but technical specifications.
Advantages of pendant luminaires
LED lamps are an excellent alternative to incandescent bulbs. Pendant luminaires for shops, schools, homes and offices give even, high-quality light. It does not irritate the eyes, does not flicker, does not overheat, does not emit ultraviolet, helps people work better and saves you money.
The secret of the popularity of pendant LED luminaires is simple:
- Long life. An LED luminaire lasts 20 times longer than an ordinary bulb.
- Environmental friendliness. Pendant LED luminaires do not harm the environment either in use or at the end of their life. They can be disposed of in the usual way.
- Safety. LED lamps do not explode, do not release toxic gas and are completely safe in every other respect.
- Low running costs.
The main advantage of an LED lamp is that it gives a high light level while using much less electricity. If you work out how much it costs to light a room with LED lamps compared with an ordinary incandescent bulb, or even an energy-saving lamp, you will be surprised.
- LED vs incandescent bulb: about 12 times more economical
- LED vs energy-saving lamp: 2 to 3 times more economical
Vision Lighting luminaires are an excellent alternative to outdated lighting.
